About The Role

We are looking for a seasoned leader who is passionate about building secure and scalable user acquisition, engagement, and personalization systems. As a leader of the Growth Platform Engineering team, you will work on creating a reliable and secure platform that will be used by Careem and trusted SuperApp partners to engage with our Customers and Captains. You will oversee the technical roadmaps for teams working on the systems responsible for promotions, user acquisition, and engagement, as well as content discovery and personalization. You will also oversee the creation of the Ad-tech team.

What you’ll do

  • Building a world-class team by recruiting and retaining a diverse and exceptional engineering team.
  • Directly oversee managers and senior managers as well as principal engineers.
  • Balance tactical and strategic technical investments that are in line with Careem’s core values.
  • Contribute to the technical product strategy and roadmap of Careem.
  • Collaborate with leadership across Careem to define clear succession plans and grow the next line of leadership in Careem.

Basic qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience as an engineering leader.
  • 2+ years of experience managing an organization of ~50 engineers.
  • 10+ years of overall technical experience, including deep knowledge of architecture and operations of highly available, large-scale backend services
  • Experience coaching and developing other managers and leads.
  • Experience leading a distributed org (your org will be spread across Dubai, Berlin, Alexandria, Amman, and Karachi)
  • Experience overseeing the creation and operation of large-scale, highly available, mission-critical distributed systems reliably and in a sustainable fashion.
  • Experience creating the structures necessary to mentor and grow junior engineers in a diverse organization.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience leading teams in a remote-first environment.
  • Experience scaling up engineering teams in a startup environment.
  • Prior experience working on Ad tech is a plus.
  • Prior experience with user engagement and personalization systems that leverage machine learning models is a plus
